Why I fight?

I fight because I am the poster child for the American Dream. I grew up in grinding poverty. I often did not know where my next meal was coming from when I was growing up. But I persevered and through a combination luck and talent made my way into the middle class.

And for the last 25 years, I have believed it was my duty to make sure that the chances I have been afforded are passed on. I have seen first hand how the vast majority of people are not better off than they were 30 years ago. I know from doing the research who is responsible for the mess we are in now.

My political heroes are Teddy Roosevelt and Franklin Roosevelt. They both went against great odds and struck fear in the hearts of the corporations who would take over our country. And in the last 30 years under Republicans and Democrats they have been given free reign to do that again. I know that nothing will change until we take back our government from them. I know that none of the issues I feel strongly about will be solved until their reign of terror has been ended.

We must end corporate person hood. We must end the notion of money as speech. We must end the idea that shareholder profit is the only thing that corporations must be accountable for. Until we end these three things, we will not be able to fix the real challenges that face our country and the world, like poverty, environmental degradation, income inequality, and protecting civil liberties.
